6 longest-running cartoons

Everyone has a cartoon that marked a time in their life, and not necessarily the childhood. In the last 30 years, we have seen an increasing movement of animations aimed at adults. Anyway, the TV was the scene of long-lived trajectories, and we are going to tell the story of 6 drawings that are still on display.

This list does not necessarily include the titles that were on the air the longest, but rather, those that are still being produced. The criterion for elaboration was the airing date of the first episode. As you will see, most are cartoon aimed at an adult audience, but this is not a rule.

6. American Dad! (2005 – )

On TV since 2005, there are 17 seasons on the air and a total of 330 episodes. Created by Seth MacFarlane, Matt Weitzman and Mike Barker, American Dad! is an animation shown on FOX that follows the trajectory of the Smith family. Stan is an agent of CIARepublican, married to Francine.

Father of two children, hippie Hayley and “idiot” Steve, Stan runs his upper-middle-class family, whose humor is centered on the quirkiness of their characters. The alien Roger completes the main cast, trickster, deceived and very selfish.

5. Peppa Pig (2004 – )

British creation aimed at preschool children, Peppa Pig is now a worldwide phenomenon. Created by the duo Neville Astley and Mark Baker, the cartoon aired for the first time in May 2004. Since then, there have been 368 episodes, shown in over 180 countries.

In the animation, all the characters are animals, including the pig. Peppa Pig, the protagonist who gives the name to the drawing. Short episodes of about five minutes follow the daily lives of his family and friends in everyday activities, such as leisure, sports and family relationships.

4. SpongeBob (1999 – )

Another worldwide phenomenon, Sponge Bob is also a long-running cartoon shown on Nickelodeon. With 13 seasons and 277 episodes aired, Sponge Bob Square Pants was created by Stephen Hillenburg and became a product of pop culture, adored by many people beyond the age group who should have seen it.

Follow the misadventures of Sponge Bob in Bikini Bottom, a fictional underwater city located in the Pacific Ocean. In addition to the protagonist, Mr. Krabs, Lula Molusca, Sandy Bochechas, Patrick Estela and Plankton, the latter a kind of villain, are in the plot. Its first episode aired on May 1, 1999, securing the fourth position.

3. Family Guy (1999 – )

Because it premiered its first episode on January 31, 1999, family guy is ahead of Sponge Bob Square Pants. Another work by Seth MacFarlane, the cartoon follows the lives of the Griffins, a dysfunctional family from Quahog, Rhode Island, composed of Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, Stewie and the family dog, Brian.

The animation was notable for the numerous parodies of elements of North American pop culture. There are 20 seasons on the air, totaling 389 episodes shown. The animation series is constantly sued, either for violating copyrights or being accused of antisemitism.

2. South Park (1997 – )

South Park is another cartoon whose characters (and many episodes) are already part of popular culture. Aimed at an adult audience, the animation is known for its reviews loaded with acid humorsurreal and satirical.

Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny first aired in August 1997, and have already entered the 21st century as young adult darlings. They are constantly accused of racial prejudice, sexism, homophobia and antisemitismbut they still command Comedy Central nights.

In the list of animated cartoons that have been on the air for the longest time, the first place is The Simpsons, which for more than 30 years has had significant numbers of audiences, controversies and lawsuits, in addition, of course, to fans. Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Meg are some of the most important characters in American pop culture.

The success is so great that The Simpsons already won film and musical. Several other characters from Springfield, the fictional town in which the plot takes place, are as famous as their protagonists. In total, the series created by Matt Groening has 33 seasons and 728 episodes aired. A milestone in American TV history.
