A unique Porsche 911 inspired by the animated film Cars sold 3.6 million

Porsche and the animation studio Pixar have created a unique 911 inspired by the character of Sally Carrera from the films Cars. The car was auctioned off for $3.6 million.

In the animated film trilogy Cars from Pixar, the character of Sally Carrera, faithful sidekick to the hero Lightning McQueen, is a Porsche 911 Carrera Type 996 from 2002. For the 20th anniversary of the model, the German manufacturer has joined forces with the American studio to create a unique 911 type 992 inspired by Sally Carrera. Thus was born the 911 Sally Special, based on a Carrera GTS with manual gearbox. The coupé takes up the blue color of Sally Carrera, created for the occasion and baptized Sallybluemetallic. This color covers up to the lower part of the shields, air intakes included, elements which are black as standard. The car is based on exclusive rims, a reinterpretation of the famous Turbo-Look design which has not appeared in the Porsche catalog for several years but which Sally Carrera enjoys on screen. Even the tattoo adorning the posterior of the virtual character has been integrated into the Sally Special, not without humor since it appears on the bellows of the rear wing and therefore only appears when the latter rises.

A cabin full of details

The interior finish is in tune with leather upholstery with a tricolor houndstooth pattern combining blue, chalk gray and black. A blue insert runs across the entire width of the dashboard, a color found on the various topstitching. The backlit door sills are badged “Sally Special”, like the dashboard facing the passenger who can also admire a drawing representing Sally Carrera. On the steering wheel, the driving mode selector no longer bears the indication “Drive Mode” but “Kachow! Mode” in reference to the favorite exclamation of Lightning McQueen and his band. The “Cars” movies logo is embroidered in places and appears on the outside of the car’s center pillars. Another exclusive detail: Porsche accompanies the car with a unique watch that takes up the aesthetic theme. Unlike the full-scale Sally Carrera model that Porsche made several years ago, the Sally Special is a “real” car and is homologated for use on the open road.

A record price for a good cause

As part of Monterey Car Week in California, the Porsche 911 Sally Special was auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s for charity. The lot included the car, the watch, a set of extra rims and an exclusive cover. The GTS found a buyer for 3.6 million dollars (3.63 million euros), thus becoming the most expensive new Porsche ever sold at auction. The sum thus collected must be distributed between the organizations Girls Inc. and USA For UNHCR. The first supports girls and young women in difficulty in the United States, the second depends on the UN and comes to the aid of refugees, in particular Ukrainians, while many of them have fled the Russian invasion attempt which has lasted for six month today. “The 911 Sally Special is made to be driven often and with enthusiasm,” said Daniela Milosević, interior designer at Porsche. Will this convince the purchaser of this unique model not to let it sleep in a garage?
