Bocchi the Rock!, a slice of life about teenagers who start their own rock band

‘Bocchi the Rock!’, the fun and risque anime that has eaten ‘Chainsaw Man’ and ‘Boku no Hero Academia’ this season

This fall has been loaded with highly anticipated releases, especially with several great anime that released new seasons and some novelties that had already swept the manga and that we were looking forward to seeing in animated format but the series that has taken the cake in terms of popularity during the fall has been ‘Bocchi the Rock!‘, a slice of life about teenage girls who start their own rock band.

Hitori She is a very introverted girl and incapable of socializing. Nevertheless, she loves music and her dream is to form a band and become famous. One day, while walking with his guitar, he meets a girl who urgently needs a guitarist to play in a band. From now on, Hitori You will have to overcome your fears to achieve your dream.

Our protagonist is Hitori Gotō, who is extremely introverted and has never had any friends. One day she starts playing the guitar with the dream of forming her own band and thus making a group of friends, and although she is relatively famous on the internet she has never decided to take the big step beyond the bedroom. her.

Bocchi the Rock!‘ does not offer too many new features on the front, starting from an already hackneyed premise of a protagonist who is not very good at socializing. But even so, it is a fun and light anime that manages to take the comedic punches to the extreme, and even stretch the most pathetic moments to the maximum.

The series has a very normal start, introducing us to their characters and with a very tender tone. Although it is maintained throughout the season, it also shows us little by little how Hitori She is not the only one in the group with neurosis and she manages to give us a fairly faithful and realistic portrait of what it is like to be a teenager.

Not only that, but the comedy punches are very well measured, and even more exaggerated by completely changing the drawing style, with some scenes done in stop-motion animation or live action elements.

Yes it is true that he visual style is not for everyone, and frankly thank goodness that the characters have different colors and hairstyles because we fall too much in that all the characters have the same face and look fourteen years old, even adults. But once you get past this barrier and into the story, the style fits very well with the light tone of the whole anime.

All this mixture of styles gives a very personal character to ‘Bocchi the Rock!‘, which although it doesn’t have a stellar animation to get excited about, is very good and looks much better during musical performances.

If you likes music, especially Japanese rock, the series is full of references to bands and styles, and the love for the genre shows a lot through how the characters express themselves and move, and of course through how they create their own songs. Throughout the series we have several great songs, and more than one will stick in your head for hours.

Thanks to all this,’Bocchi the Rock!‘ has been topping the list of most popular series in polls for many weeks, ahead of even the biggest action anime of the season.

And honestly, it is not for less. It’s not the best animated series coming out in 2022, but it’s light, charming and hopeful in tone, with plenty of humor to put you in a good mood when you need it most.

For now the series consists of 12 episodes and you can see full through crunchyroll. Aki Hamaji’s manga consists of 5 volumes and is still in publication, although the anime has almost, almost reached the original material, so we may have to wait a little longer until CloverWorks decide to continue with new chapters.

We would like to give thanks to the author of this article for this awesome material
