Beauty and the Beast 2: The Enchanted Christmas
Sequel to Disney’s masterpiece, Beauty and the Beast 2: The Enchanted Christmas takes place during the Christmas period. Fairly short in length, just 68 minutes, the film was released in 1997. At that time, the big-eared studio was churning out inexpensive sequels to their classics galore. Previously, sequels and spin-offs from Aladdin, the Jungle Book or the Lion King had already appeared. The story tells of a Christmas party, held at the Beast’s castle, sometime after the enchantress’ spell was broken. Almost the entire village takes part in these festivities. While reminiscing about the holidays of the previous year, Lumiere and Big Ben argue over who saved Christmas when Belle was imprisoned.
Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Released in 2018, Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a 1h40 American fantasy film. It is a free adaptation of the German tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann published in 1816. When it was released, many media had praised the artistic direction of the feature film. The work of Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, directors of the film, aimed to create a universe inspired by Christmas. Among other things, the newspaper Point gave it a rating of 3 stars out of 5 on Allociné. In commentary, the media spoke of a “very free adaptation which sins by a simplistic scenario, but which draws a concentrate of magic and magic of Christmas which should delight the youngest“.
Scrooge’s Funny Christmas
It is one of the most famous tales related to Christmas. In 1843, Charles Dickens wrote the short story A Christmas Carol. It tells the sad Christmas spent by Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man combining greed and bitterness. Rendered apathetic over the years, his encounter with the ghost of his former partner will change his life. The latter will invoke different spirits making Scrooge travel in his consciousness via images of the past, present and future. An adventure that will aim to soften the old man and make him understand that his bad mood will bring him nothing good. With Scrooge’s Funny Christmas, Robert Zemeckis wishes to perpetuate the memory of this moral tale which is still just as relevant. To achieve this, he designs a 3D animated film entirely made in motion capture. Jim Carrey takes the stage to embody an audience of 8 very different characters.
The strange Christmas of Mr. Jack
In 1993, Tim Burton imagined and wrote an original Christmas film. Directed by Henry Selick, The strange Christmas of Mr. Jack was born in 1993. In the world of this animated film, each party has a dedicated city. In the latter, figures and creatures relating to the different festivals live there. One day, a resident of Halloween Town named Jack Skellington discovers Christmas Town. Amazed by the atmosphere that emanates from it, he will try to transpose the atmosphere to his city of origin. Having become iconic, the feature film has had the right to numerous theatrical releases over the years. Since the early 2000s, it has been screened 5 times in American cinemas. As it aired, the film earned $90 million at the worldwide box office. Its production had cost 25 million.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays
During the winter of 2022, James Gunn returns to the cottages with an unreleased film. Exclusively on Disney+, Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special aired on November 25. In this 42-minute film, we find the famous characters from the Marvel universe and draped in an aesthetic reminiscent of the end of the year celebrations. This atypical production in the Marvel Cinematic Universe turns out to be James Gunn’s penultimate mop with the Guardians. Indeed, the American director will say goodbye in 2023 to the endearing characters he developed during a trilogy of films + a special. As a reminder, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is released on May 3, 2023. A first trailer is even available.
Mom I missed the plane
Make way for a classic! When we think “Christmas movie”, we very often visualize this film pitting the character played by Macaulay Culkin against evil burglars. If we associate Mom I missed the plane at the end-of-year celebrations, it is because the plot certainly takes place during this period, but above all, because reruns are legion at the end of the year. So much so that the 1990 film entered the pantheon of works with the smell of hot milk and sparkling colors. Specialist in works that make young and old dream, it is the American Chris Columbus who directed this feature film. The latter is also at the helm of films such as The Goonies, Madame Doubtfire, the Gremlins and Harry Potter at the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Mickey, Once Upon a Christmas
This 70-minute film takes Mickey and his friends through three different Christmas-related stories. In the first story, the viewer follows the stories of Huey, Dewey and Louie. They wish for Christmas to last forever and get stuck in a time loop. Then, we follow Goofy who wants to make his son, Max, believe again that Santa Claus exists. The last reveals the gift hunt organized between Mickey and Minnie. Mickey, Once Upon a Christmasavailable on Disney+, allows you to experience the holidays alongside Donald, Mickey and many other iconic characters from the firm.
Snow Queen
It is one of the most popular animated films of recent years. Around the world, the stories of Elsa and her sister have fired young and old, and especially warmed the vocal cords of many toddlers. In 2013, many young spectators sang the famous “Liberated, delivered, I would never lie again…” When it came out, Snow Queen quickly became the highest-grossing animated film of all time. With more than a billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts, it dethroned Toy Story 3 at the time. In 2019, two films will overtake it. This is the CGI remake of The Lion King and… Frozen 2! This sequel is also available on Disney+.
Great Christmas
The whole of super christmas trilogy is available on Disney+. With her 3 films released in 1994, 2002 and 2006, she perpetuates the initial idea of director John Pasquin. Normally, the latter is more accustomed to TV productions. With the first feature film, success is largely at the rendezvous! With a budget of barely 25 million, it brings in almost 10 times more at the global box office. We follow the story of Scott Calvin, a father in conflict with his son. The latter then finds himself replacing an injured Santa Claus. But what initially looked like a temporary mission will take an unexpected turn. Between a trip to reward every good child and a family story, Super Noël offers you a trilogy of films to watch as a family.
