The weeks follow each other and are not alike within the japanimation industry. After a resounding debut, “The Children of Time”, Makoto Shinkai’s animated film has just suffered a setback against the competition embodied by Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

Upheavals in the rankings
July 19, 2019 marks the first steps of the Japanese animated film “Les Enfants du Temps”, in Japanese cinemas. During this period, this feature film entrusted to the good care of Makoto Shinkai, the director of “Your Name”, managed to find a place at the top.
This was reflected in particular by strong performances at the box office, hoisting the director’s masterpiece into the Top 10 of the best animated films. With a receipt of more than 185 million euros, it easily found itself in the 7e place of the highest-grossing anime films in Japan.
Moreover, it is even in 2019, the highest-grossing feature film in all of Japan. But although his numbers are staggering, Jujutsu Kaisen just passed him. With a nice pot of around 188 million euros, the animated film Jujutsu Kaisen is now at the 6e square.
December 24, 2021 marked the long-awaited release of the very first feature film around the chaotic universe of Jujutsu Kaisen. And for a first try, it’s a canon start that the franchise achieves, propelling this film into a whole new dimension in no time.
In parallel with this success, Mappa no longer gave too much news on the animated series which ended on March 27, 2021 after 24 episodes. Meanwhile, Gege Akutami’s manga is still pre-published by Shueisha and currently has 20 volumes. Now, fans’ eyes are on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.
And although no official date has been confirmed, season 2 should see the light of day in 2023 unless there is a last minute change. As for the plot, the new season will undoubtedly adapt the Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu arc as well as the Shibuya Incident arc.
The first of these arcs will be a flashback to events related to Gojo’s past when he was just a student at the Tokyo Exorcism School. We will therefore see a younger version and also surrounded by his best friends. However, everything will go into a spin after a certain incident.
And as if it were not the most serious, the repercussions of this incident will be at the origin of the Shibuya incident as well as many other tragedies. Long story short, the next arcs will feature the events that led the protagonists, as well as the antagonists, to become who they are today. We won’t say more on the subject to avoid any risk of spoilers.
While waiting for the release of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen, you can still (re) watch the first season on Crunchyroll as well as the feature film. In addition to other animated films such as The First Slam Dunk, One Piece: Red, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero are also to be discovered. And we should not forget Suzume no Tojimarithe brand new animated film by Makoto Shinkai which is already a hit at the end of the year.
