As is tradition, Christmas in Lugo comes alive onDecember 8th. The day of the feast of the Immaculate Conception is the one in which the Christmas tree in the center of the Pavaglione and the lights in the streets of the center are lit. An afternoon with many appointments which sees, already from the morning, the presence under the loggias of the Pavaglione of the “Lugo Dona” markets organized by the Pro Loco, which also take place on Saturday 10, 17 and on Christmas Eve.
Accompanying the switching on of the tree and lights are I Musicanti di San Crispino, a traveling brass concert from Romagna that plays a repertoire from traditional Romagna music to TV series theme songs, passing through South American, the 60s, the funky New Orleans, the tarantella, the dixie, the reggae, the ska, but with an eye always focused on the Balkans.
On the same day, in Passogatto there is “E marché di sabado” with a concert of bagpipers, in San Potito Terenzio Tabanelli’s bagpipes for Christmas are joy and in Voltana the lighting of the by now traditional crochet tree.
Saturday 10th December various animations are planned in the centre. Under the loggias of the Pavaglione, from the morning the Pro Loco and Vinyl Brulè markets organized by the 12Pollici association. In the afternoon, from 4.30 pm, the performance of The Big Violinist. A spectacular lady, with her large illuminated skirt, will play the violin live, proposing a vast repertoire that ranges between different musical genres: from classical music to famous pop songs and film music. For the occasion there will be the most famous Christmas songs.
In the hamlets in Bizzuno there are shows and entertainment “Christmas of lights and solidarity” and in San Potito the Christmas tree is created with the children.
Sunday 11th December it is the day of the Lugo Music Festival Christmas concert in the Collegiata church, while the afternoon of Passogatto is with Fabio Galiani and the ocarinas of the Delta, in San Potito Gospel choir and dinner of good wishes.
Saturday 17th December “Christmas in Camper” arrives in Piazza Mazzini thanks to the Lugo in Camper association, and Santa Claus appears at the markets. The living crib, curated by AVSI, takes shape in the afternoon in Piazza Trisi. Between Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 events in San Berbardino, Bizzuno, San Lorenzo and Voltana. Monday 19th December it’s the turn of the 58th City of Lugo Nativity Scene competition organized by ACLI.
For Christmas Eve, Saturday 24th Decemberthe Creative Academy arrives in the center and presents the traveling show with stilts White Presences. Two dancers dressed as white butterflies, ethereal and elegant, with luminous costumes made unique in Italy thanks to the use of sophisticated warm light LED technology, are accompanied by a luminous carriage that carries light music in the air. To follow the fire showa fire and light show with a strong visual impact thanks to the use of theatrical pyrotechnics and luminous costumes.
Events also in San Lorenzo with Santa Claus around the town, Passogatto, Villa San Martino, Voltana with the house-to-house distribution of gifts to the children by Santa Claus.
The December 26, as per tradition, the Sports Festival at the Palazzetto in via Sabin is an opportunity for the city to reward its small and large champions. The Adriano Guerrini twinning association proposes a double appointment: Christmas with the twins, the 22nd and 29th December. It’s an opportunity to get to know how Lugo’s sister cities spend the Christmas holidays.
The program ends on January 6th with a day obviously dedicated to the Epiphany.
On Sundays in December, the center is also animated with the Christmas Fair, the market for special occasions which takes place from 8 to 20 with appointments as early as Sunday 4 December, 11 and 18 (with an antiques market).
