Marvel: animated films and series arriving on SVOD and in cinemas

The Marvel universe is available in cinema and SVOD with actors and actresses. But the field of animation is not left out. Several films and series are in the works.

The Marvel universe comes to the cinema with the Marvel Cinematic Universebut also on the services of SVODto start with Disney+. But there are also projects linked to the world of animation, whether series or films. Not all of them are related to Disney+. Nor on television for that matter. Overview of what is planned in the planning for the years to come.

I am Groot

The animated series dedicated to Groot, that intelligent talking shrub species that is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, now has a date. It will be broadcast from August 10 on Disney+. It is centered on the vegetable monster when he is still only a child – the state he has at the end of the first film on the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot has the particularity of systematically repeating “My name is Groot” (I am Groot), in different keys, to share his thoughts. The animation style is obviously CGI, to take on the style this young piece of wood has in the various Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.

What ifseason 2

It is in 2022 that season 2 of What if must arrive on Disney+. The first season of What if, released in 2021, explores various screenplay hypotheses: what if such and such a character were dead? What if so-and-so had acted differently? What if the villains had won? This approach makes it possible to explore the MCU with other parameters, through around ten episodes.

This series sort of fulfills fans’ fantasy of seeing MCU characters in other circumstances — for example, the AI Ultron takes over the heroes, a relentless zombie invasion decimates the Avengers, and so on. right now. It is typically the ideal format to allow yourself some delirious re-readings of the MCU.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year

Peter Parker is a superhero, but he’s also a young man of his time. And he’s also a student. Exactly, Spider-Man: Freshman Year wishes to offer a look at the young man’s first year of university. It is assumed that the series will delight in putting him in difficulty, with a protagonist torn between his studies and his superheroic obligations.

It is expected that Freshman Year slots into the MCU and serves to introduce Spider-Man’s past — even though everyone already knows it. In any case, it will be placed before Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecomingthe two live-action films in which we see Peter Parker for the first time in the MCU.

x men 97

You may have known in the 90s an animated series on X-Men. It is perhaps on this occasion that the style of certain mutants imprinted itself in your mind, whether it is Cyclops, Le Fauve or Wolverine. This series will be entitled to a resurrection, expected for 2023. A dozen episodes are on the program, with a broadcast on Disney +.

X-Men: The Animated Seriesits original name, spanned five seasons between 1992 and 1997. It is expected that x men 97‘, which therefore takes up in its title the year in which it ended, continues the story of the time. If successful, other seasons could be confirmed. The series will not be linked to the MCU, but will evolve in a separate universe.

Marvel Zombies

Superheroes against zombies. Here, very roughly summarized, is the pitch of Marvel Zombies. Undead invasions are very popular in movies and TV. Moreover, the first season of What if explored this avenue. Marvel Zombies will go more frankly, but there should not be direct links between the two works.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Okay, this is not a Marvel Studios and Disney+ related project. Nevertheless: it is an animation project linked to the Marvel universe. After the great Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: Next Generationin France), Sony Pictures Animation will continue in this direction with two sequels: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023 and Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024.

This trilogy is based on a script arc of the comics which allows Spider-Man to encounter other versions of himself from other universes. Except that here, we do not follow Peter Parker, but Miles Morales. This project explores the Spider-Man multiverse in a way, and brilliantly. The animation is a delight, the characters endearing and the scenario very pleasant.
