netflix unveiled a featurette of Pinocchiothe new stop-motion musical animation film by Guillermo del Toro.
The adventures of Pinocchiothe famous wooden puppet who dreamed of becoming a real boy, reimagined in a new stop-motion musical animated film from the Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
The original version features the voices of famous actors like Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket, and David Bradley in the role of Geppetto, or that of Gregory Mann, which we discover in the role of Pinocchio. Other stars like Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gormanas well as Oscar-winning performers Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swintoncomplete this exceptional voice cast.
The award-winning director, Guillermo del Torowill make his debut as an animated film director at netflix with Pinocchio, a feature film project he has always been passionate about. He will also be in charge of writing and producing this stop motion musical. Pinocchio will be the director’s first feature film since The Shape of Waterwhich won four Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture.
In his retelling of the classic tale of Pinocchio, Guillermo Del Toro chooses the Italy of the 1930s as a setting. This marks the development of the relationship between netflix and Guillermo del Torowho created the Emmy-winning television series, Troll Hunters which is the first part of the trilogy Tales of Arcadia of DreamWorks.
Pinocchio is produced by Guillermo del Toro, The Jim Henson Company (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) and ShadowMachine (Bojack Horseman, The Shivering Truth) which will host the stop-motion production of the film. Next to Guillermo del Toro, Lisa Henson, Alex Bulkley of ShadowMachine, Corey Campodonico and Gary Ungarby Exile Entertainment will produce the film. Blanca Lista will be co-producing. Patrick McHale (The Strange Forest, Adventure Time) will co-write the screenplay, Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) will co-direct and Guy Davis will be co-designer. they will be inspired by the original design of Grimly Gray for the character of Pinocchio. The puppets of the film will be built by Mackinnon & Saunders (Funeral rites).
