Elementary: Opposites Attract in 2023 at Pixar
There will undoubtedly be much more in Elementarythe new animated film from Pixar studios expected in 2023, than what this first trailer shows us. But we already recognize the characteristic touch of animation magicians who have amazed us since Toy Story, Monsters and Co. and The world of Nemo. Peter Sohn, the director of Elementary, was also credited as a screenwriter on The world of Nemobut above all we owe him the making of the film Arlo’s Journey and short film Cloudy periods. We also find the very clear influence of the latter in the trailer for Elementary which features protagonists that are, to say the least… immaterialin a setting that could not be more realistic: a metro train!
Clearly, the next Pixar is about to bring opposites together to demonstrate that the old adage that “opposites attract” is more than ever a real life lesson. This is also the starting point of the film. Elementary who enjoys confronting the most incompatible elements of fire and water through an unlikely encounter: that of Flam, a young lady with a fiery temperament, and Flack, a sensitive and emotional young man. Concretely, a flame and a drop of water with a humanoid design to better make this tale a metaphor for the surprises that life has in store for us. Note that the names of the characters in VO are Ember (for Flam) and Wade (for Flack).

I’ve always found this painting to look like some sort of apartment building. The elements lived their lives side by side. I made jokes about one or the other: “These two are friends.” Or: “Those don’t trust each other.” That’s where it all came from. – Peter Sohn (director of Elementary)
An idea that eventually came to fruition, many years later, in the form of an alternative reality in which all citizens are linked to the four natural elements: fire, water, air and earth. By placing this unusual little world in an urban context, the director then focuses on a duo that everything opposes to take the opposite view of prejudices : no, the most improbable couples are not necessarily doomed to failure, and it is through the romantic story of Flam and Flack that Peter Sohn intends to demonstrate it to us!
The next Disney Pixar film, Elementary, will be released in 2023, on June 16 in the United States and at an undetermined date in Europe.
