This week we are waiting for the release of the most long-awaited series of the fall, a thriller with Steve Carell, an animation about the digitization of consciousness and something else. We tell you more in our material.
September 2 Prime Video
Who to watch: those who are interested in what the most expensive series in the history of television looks like, as well as fans of John Tolkien.
September begins less with a school bell and yellow leaves than with a giant fantasy inspired by Tolkien’s various Middle-earth writings that he wrote after The Lord of the Rings. The show will tell about how the Rings of Power were forged, how the evil will of Sauron grew in Mordor, describe the story of the rise and fall of Numenor, the island of people, where Aragorn comes from. The main event of the story is the last alliance of elves and humans in the epic war against Sauron. The amount of money, special effects, extras, and the question of how showrunners Patrick McKay and John D. Payne will deal with the book original make the project the most anticipated premiere of the fall.
August 30 Hulu
Who to watch: those who still believe that Steve Carell is just a boss from the series The Office, and thriller lovers.
Steve Carell, as you know, has long successfully coped not only with comedic roles. In the new mini-series from the creators of The Americans, he plays a psychotherapist who is kidnapped by one of his patients, a serial killer (Donal Gleason from the new Star Wars). The patient demands that the prisoner, who promised to help him at the first safe session, cure him of the desire to kill. An unexpected angle on the topic of psychotherapy, which was present in one way or another in many serials of recent years.
August 31, Netflix
Who to watch: those who are not alien to the spirit of protest against the system.
British thriller about a young rebel who expresses his protest by sneaking into the homes of the rich and leaving graffiti there. However, on one of his outings, he accidentally discovers that a prestigious judge with a perfect image is actually hiding a terrible secret. Gradually, relatives of the rebellious witness are also drawn into a dangerous game. The latter is played by English star George MacKay (“1917”). The role of the villainous judge is played by Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey and Paddington.
Love in the Villa
September 1, Netflix
Who to watch: those who like to spend the evening in the company of a rom-com and unhealthy (but tasty) food.
Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries plays a girl who loves to be in control. After breaking up with her boyfriend, she goes to the homeland of Romeo and Juliet – to Verona. Having settled into a beautiful house, she suddenly runs into a handsome Englishman (Tom Hopper), who does not even think of moving out. A mistake with the armor leads the heroes first to funny battles for the territory of the villa, and then to romantic walks around the city, where, according to the authors, it is impossible not to fall in love.
September 1, AMC+
Who should watch it: those who are interested in unusual animated sci-fi about digitalization.
Maddie recently lost her father. Shortly after his death, the girl begins to receive messages from a stranger and suddenly finds out that her father is writing to her, whose intelligence was uploaded to a special digital cloud. He was not the first to agree to the experiment, but as it turned out, people behind the progressive idea are actually plotting to increase military power. The animated series is based on a series of short stories by writer Ken Liu, who has done a brilliant translation into English of the well-known science fiction novel The Three-Body Problem. The channel has already renewed the show for a second season.
September 2, Netflix
Who should watch it: those who love horror in the American Gothic setting.
Susan Mathis is a psychiatrist at a local hospital in a small Ohio town. One day, a girl who escaped from a dangerous sect gets into the hospital. Susan decides to temporarily shelter the fugitive at home. However, the appearance of the girl starts a chain of strange events, in which her connection with the cult may be to blame. Starring Emily Deschanel, star of Bones. The script is based on the bestseller of the same name by Daria Polatin, inspired by a true story.
September 4, Adult Swim
Who should watch it: Fans of the crazy adventures of Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty.
In the new season, the creators of the animated series promise to change the way viewers think about Rick. You should not be afraid, the character of the cynical misanthropic scientist will remain unchanged, but, most likely, we will learn more details about the hero’s past. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland did not disclose other details, but they say that they have prepared a new portion of fun for the fans.
